Michelin, Continental, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Goodyear, Dunlop, Hankook, Yokohama, Toyo, and Falken. All-season and sport compounds from high-quality makers — Michelin, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Goodyear — are what keep a car planted in rain and heat. Do not cut costs on tires: they are the only contact with the road, and they decide stopping distance and how long the car stays safe on the highway.

Same brand, same size, same condition. Bring the ad from Tire Rack, Discount Tire, BJ's, Costco, or another shop, and the TiresMatch price comes down to meet it.
Connecticut
On purchases of two or more tires.
Delivery is coordinated after you reserve tires. One tire and out-of-state addresses are quoted separately at checkout or by the shop.
Coverage includes New Britain, Hartford, West Hartford, Wallingford, Waterbury, New Haven, Farmington, and the rest of Connecticut. City names on a tire card are delivery and service areas, not verified shop or pickup addresses.
Listed prices use proposed $75 and $60 pricing tiers. Those tiers are not a verified physical grade unless the tire note says the owner supplied the tier. Owner states remaining tread is 6 mm or more on this batch.
Scan
The phone camera reads the VIN on the door jamb or the barcode on a tire label. Amber uses the free NHTSA file and the factory catalog, then opens matching tires on the rack.
Amber
The VIN fills the make, the model, and the factory size. All-season is the main seller. Scan VIN uses the phone camera.
VIN and barcode questions go to Ask Amber.
Factory size
Honda Civic fills this bar with the original equipment on file. Check the factory specification on the driver's door placard before you order. Optional wheels and some trims use a different size.
NHTSA VIN decoder. That is the national vehicle file state motor-vehicle offices use to identify the car. It confirms the make, model, and year. The tire size is on the door placard, not on the registration.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 245/40R19Wholesale loads
Tire shops and auto shops hold a used-tire load from a yard. A mixed truck shows every rim and every grade before you take it. Grade A 19s are not priced like grade C 15s. The number on the card is that mix.
Mixed grades
A, B, and C can ride on the same truck. You see the split.

Price follows the mix
Deeper tread and bigger rims move the truck price up.
Ship from America
International buyers can order tires and wholesale loads from the United States. Overseas shops request a US load. The tires leave an American warehouse or pickup hub. You pay in US dollars.

An overseas shop can request a US truck. The load still starts in America.

All-season
A quality all-season from Michelin CrossClimate, Bridgestone Turanza, Continental PureContact, Goodyear Assurance, or Pirelli Cinturato is engineered for wet braking, heat at highway speed, and usable winter traction without swapping sets twice a year. The silica compound and siping are the safety story — not a matching size alone.
Cutting cost here shortens the wet stop and hardens the rubber sooner. Tires are safety equipment and road life: spend for a known casing with an honest UTQG traction and temperature grade.
Sport
Sport compounds — Michelin Pilot Sport, Continental SportContact / ExtremeContact, Pirelli P Zero, Bridgestone Potenza, Goodyear Eagle — hold a higher speed rating and a shorter wet stop when the road is filmed with water. The belt package sheds heat that would separate a cheap casing on a long highway run.
Do not trade a door-placard speed rating for a no-name tire in the same size. Brakes and stability control only work as far as the tire can find grip; a high-quality sport set is the part that makes those systems real.
Road safety
Brakes, stability control, and all-wheel drive all ask the tire to find grip. If the compound is hard, the tread is shallow, or the belts cannot shed heat, the car cannot do what those systems were designed to do. The ten brands below are the ones shops actually mount when the job is wet braking, a highway speed rating, and a casing that stays round.
Pilot Sport holds wet grip late in the tread life. The compound is the reason shops treat it as the reference tire.
SportContact and ExtremeContact are built for a short stop in the rain. The silica tread stays planted when the road is filmed with water.
P Zero is original equipment on a lot of European performance cars. The speed rating on the sidewall is the one the car was tested with.
Potenza is a high-volume original-equipment tire with a real heat grade. Heat is what blows a cheap casing on a highway run.
Eagle covers summer and all-season. The wet traction grade is printed on the sidewall, and a quality Eagle keeps an A or AA.
Sport Maxx shows up as original equipment on sport trims. Same size as a bargain tire, tighter construction under the tread.
Ventus is the performance tire people buy when they want the UTQG traction grade without the top-shelf price.
Advan is a precise summer compound. Steering response comes from the belt package, not from a soft sidewall.
Proxes is a durable performance tire. Treadwear and wet traction are both on the label, so you can compare them before you buy.
Azenis is a common first performance set. It still has to carry the load index and speed rating on the door placard.
A new passenger tire starts near 10/32 inch. Most states call 2/32 inch the legal minimum, which is the wear bar. In the rain, grip is already thinning at 4/32 inch. Snow wants more tread than that. A tire can be legal and still be a poor tire in a storm.
The only contact with the road is four patches, each about the size of a palm. UTQG traction is the wet grade: AA, then A, then B, then C. Temperature is the heat grade: A is the one you want for highway speed. A no-name tire in the right size can still stop longer and run hotter.
The driver-door sticker lists the size, the pressure, and the load the car was certified with. The sidewall maximum is not that number. A replacement has to meet or beat the load index and the speed rating. Matching the size and missing the rating is not a match.
The last four digits of the DOT code are the week and the year the tire was cured. Rubber hardens in the sun and in storage. Makers generally want a tire inspected once it is five or six years old, and retired by ten, even when the grooves still look deep.
Check pressure cold, once a month, to the door placard. Low pressure builds the heat that separates a belt. A used tire from one of these brands can still be the right tire if the tread is honest, the DOT date is young, and the repairs are none. That is the whole safety case for buying a known compound instead of a casing that only matches the size.
